One main site in Vientiane and a branch in Luang Prabang

Initially created within the premises of the Embassy as a langage service, it was inaugurated on January 14th 1994 in its current premises as a French Language Center by Mr Jacques Chirac, then Mayor of Paris. In January 1995, it became a financially autonomous institution under the name of « Cultural and Linguistic Cooperation Center ».It has now become an Institut français and remains the main player in the field of French cultural and university cooperation in Laos.

Its scope of action covers three main areas :

The language courses : A varied linguistic offer : French, Lao and English .
The IFL welcomes more than 2000 students per year. Classes are mainly held at the Lane Xang site in Vientiane, at the Luang Prabang branch and at the Pôle d’Activités Francophones in Dong Dok.

The multi media library : With a collection of more than 25 000 books, magazines, DVDs, CDs and e-books, the multimedia library of the IFL continues to increase its collections with a thousand more documents each year and offers its visitors and members a dynamic, modern and attractive service, with access to digital tools and contents.

The cultural program and support to Laotian artists : Conferences, concerts and plays are regularly programmed. Organisation of events : Research Week for Development, Comic Strip festival for the Environment, the World Music Day…Support to local cultural creations and events : Festival for Performing Arts, FMK dance festival, theatrical creation « A Midmonsoon Night’s Dream »…
