Culture

A key player in the cooperation framework in Laos, the French Institute in Laos (IFL) contributes to cultural dialogue between Laos and France, and more generally with Francophone countries. It promotes Lao and French artistic creations and fosters interaction between them through cultural activities both at the Institute and in other venues, as well as workshops, training programs, and exchanges across all fields. Recent cultural activities have included concerts (jazz, electric hurdy-gurdy, contemporary French song, piano), dance performances (hip-hop, contemporary), theater (children’s theater, puppet theater, street theater: clowns), a Franco-Lao-German fashion design residency, a photography week, and regular screenings of recent films for children.

In addition, the IFL organizes meetings and conferences on sustainable development and societal issues (digital technology, health, heritage, etc.), inviting experts from French and international research organizations.
